What are 5Rhythms®

The 5Rhythms® is a movement meditation, a simple and potentially profound dance practice designed to bring out/release the dancer that lives in all of us. There are no steps to learn and everyone can take part, no matter how old, young, flexible or stiff. No experience is needed. The only thing you need is the willingness to move and breathe. The rhythms come together to create a wave of energy. Each rhythm is a different energy field in which you find your own expression.

The 5Rhythms® are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness.

After much time of dancing herself and observing other dancers, Gabrielle Roth discerned five basic patterns of movement when people dance naturally and instinctively. She created a map of these rhythms to support and to facilitate us to experience freedom in our bodies.

In this movement practice you meet all different aspects of life. There is room to move your fear, anger, sadness, joy and love. You can experience ecstasy and also find a deep stillness. Sometimes you feel part of the whole and sometime you are dancing with your attention totally internal. It is your unique dance in this moment. You are invited to become more and more aware of what is happening in this moment.

This movement practice brings you closer to yourself, through helping you to come fully into your body. It is an exercise in staying fluid (breathing and moving) with what is. It is an invitation to constantly ground and centre and to bring what is within into movement.
